Attending USCHA: Tropical Storm Francine Update

Dear Friends,

The SAC Team is staying up-to-date on all things USCHA. While we are excited to see many of you at one of the largest HIV conferences of the year, especially with this year highlighting the South, we cannot ignore the severity of the weather. If you are traveling to the conference, we pray for your safety and that you stay vigilant with a weather tracking service. You can follow reports on Google here.

The City of New Orleans is currently under a shelter-in-place advisory. The city has faced many systemic failures regarding infrastructure around severe weather. It has been 19 years since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and the surrounding communities. Our thoughts are with the local community who are bracing for Francine's impact.

While many will not attend the conference out of an abundance of caution, let us still reflect on the powerful work of Southern organizations that meet the needs of their communities in times like these! You are indeed beacons of hope (and joy) in times of the storm!

Please consider supporting local organizations that serve those living with and impacted by HIV in New Orleans and surrounding communities. Below are some of our partners doing critical work in Louisiana:

Special thanks to Donnisha Patterson-Hayes, Chair of the USCHA 2024 Host Committee, Host Committee members, and all the local volunteers for their dedication and hard work!

Be safe and be well,

Southern AIDS Coalition Team
